Lecturer Academic Foundation Year

The University of Aruba is a young, dynamic, and growing university that was founded in 1988 and now consists of four faculties, namely the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Accounting, Finance & Marketing, the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management Studies, and the Faculty of Arts and Science. Our primary activity is to provide high-quality education.

Alongside our bachelor and master programs, as of 2016, we offer among others the Academic Foundation Year (AFY) program. The AFY aims to serve as a bridge between high school and university, by equipping the students with the essential competencies and skills to have a better transition into higher education. For the AFY we are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive colleague for the position of:

LECTURER (1,0 fte)

Main responsibilities: 

• Developing and teaching undergraduate courses in Sciences and Research complemented with AFY electives, according to a program-specific course format in close collaboration with the program team; 
• Advising and coaching students in course-related assignments; 
• Preparing students for and conducting course-related assessments; 
• Assisting in program coordination; 
• Contributing service to the development of the Academic foundation year program and program-related projects, program tasks, and other industry and community-related projects. 

Job requirements: 

• A master’s or PhD degree in a related field;
• Teaching experience;  
• An affinity with youth and community development; 
• Excellent verbal and written proficiency of the English language; Dutch, Spanish, and Papiamento are a plus; 
• Flexible and cooperative attitude to work in a dynamic environment; 
• A well-developed professional skill set: proactive, innovative leadership and communication as well as inter disciplinarian and inter-cultural competency.

This position is for an appointment of 40 hours per week and for a salary in accordance with the remuneration scheme of the University of Aruba. The appointment is for a contract period of one (1) year with the possibility of a contract extension based on a good performance evaluation and unchanged organization conditions. Part of our secondary employment conditions includes 30 vacation days, 13 ATV days, a vacation allowance, a pension plan, additional health insurance, and opportunities for personal and professional development.
